Wood and Brass Fountain Pen with Case — Piston Converter Refillable

This fountain pen combines a wooden body with brass elements for handwriting, notebooks, correspondence, annotations, and signatures.

Its piston converter allows you to fill the reservoir directly from a fountain pen compatible ink bottle, then rinse it and change colors as needed.

Ink is not included. To preserve the feed and nib, use only fluid ink clearly marked "for fountain pens," such as Poezie 30ml liquid ink.

A demonstration of the pen in action can be seen in this Ikane video.

INFORMATION

The elongated wooden body is complemented by a brass section and cap. The cap protects the nib when not in use and during transport in its case.

The converter inside the barrel functions as a small removable reservoir. Its piston draws ink from the bottle and then gradually feeds the nib during writing.

The wood may show natural variations in shade, grain, and figuring. The brass may patinate, darken, or gradually mark with hand contact.

FEATURES

Materials: Wood and brass
Length: Approximately 15.8 cm
Filling: Piston converter
Compatible Ink: Liquid fountain pen ink

WHAT INK TO USE?

Poezie 30ml liquid ink is designed for fountain pens equipped with a converter, piston, or other filling system compatible with bottled ink.

Its range of shades allows for color changes for daily writing, journaling, correspondence, annotations, or line drawing. The result varies depending on the nib's flow and the paper's absorbency.

Do not pour 30ml dip pen ink into this pen: it is intended for dip pens and traditional pen holders.

Also avoid India inks, acrylics, shellac-based inks, thick, glittery, waterproof, or pigmented inks unless their compatibility with fountain pens is explicitly stated.

FILLING THE CONVERTER

Unscrew the wooden barrel and ensure the converter is properly secured behind the nib section.

Turn the piston to expel air and place the mechanism in its lowest position.

Fully immerse the nib in the ink, until the small hole visible on its surface is submerged. Then slowly turn the piston in the opposite direction to draw in the ink.

Remove the pen from the bottle, then gently wipe the nib and section with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Screw the barrel back on, wait a few seconds for the ink to reach the feed, then test it on a piece of paper.

USE & MAINTENANCE

Write without applying strong pressure. The nib should glide on the paper: pressing harder does not necessarily increase the flow and can make the line less consistent.

Close the pen after each use to limit ink drying in the nib and feed.

Rinse the converter and nib with clean water when changing colors, when the flow becomes irregular, or before a long period of disuse.

Draw in and expel water several times with the piston until it runs clear. Do not use hot water, alcohol, or household cleaning products.

Wipe the wood and brass with a soft, dry cloth. For storage of several weeks, empty the reservoir, rinse it, and let the components dry before closing the pen.

FOR WHOM?

This pen is suitable for people who wish to replace disposable cartridges with bottled ink and freely choose their ink color.

It can accompany daily writing, journaling, research notebooks, letters, work notes, and signatures, both at home and on the go.

PAIR WITH

To fill the converter directly, pair the pen with Poezie 30ml liquid ink, available in several blues, greens, purples, browns, and plant-based shades.

For writing and journaling, it can accompany the handmade leather notebook with 120g kraft paper or the zodiac constellation notebook. Always test the ink on an inconspicuous page before extended use.

To keep the pen directly with a notebook, use the zippered notebook pen case. For carrying an A5 notebook and several tools, the A5 nomadic artist case offers more comprehensive storage.

To explore writing where the nib is dipped directly into the ink, instead consult the dip pen set or the glass pen set with inks.

These dip tools operate differently from the refillable fountain pen. You can also find notebooks, instruments, and accessories in the Writing collection.

Ikane Workshop Tip
For the first refill, choose a Poezie shade with no particular effect and use paper you are already familiar with. This will allow you to observe the nib's flow without confusing the pen's reaction with that of overly absorbent paper.
