ABOUT IKANE

IKANE grew out of my own artistic practice.

I am an artist working with ink, drawing, painting and material. IKANE grew out of this very direct relationship with tools, surfaces and the way they are actually used.

THE IKANE SELECTION

A deliberately small selection.

IKANE is a small independent shop, not a marketplace. The aim is not to offer hundreds of similar references, but to keep the catalogue clear and useful.

The selection focuses first on tools and materials that are commonly used, versatile or useful across several artistic practices. Similar references are compared to avoid multiplying products that essentially serve the same purpose.

More specific products can then be added when they bring a different technique, material or use. The catalogue will continue to grow progressively as new needs and relevant references appear.

Less choice to sort through, with a clearer role for each product.

"Before the act, there is attention."

BEFORE IT GOES ONLINE

What I check

I look at the material, format, finish, dimensions and actual use of the product. When possible, I also order a sample to examine it more closely.

AVAILABILITY

If a product becomes unavailable

Availability can sometimes change. If an item becomes unavailable after your order, I contact you to offer a suitable alternative when possible, or a full refund.

MATERIAL · TIME · PREPARATION

Why incense belongs in IKANE

Incense is not an art material. I chose to include it in IKANE for the same reason I am drawn to solid ink sticks and practices that require the material to be prepared before it can be used.

Grinding an ink stick on a stone or preparing traced incense means handling and preparing the material before even beginning to create. These are older practices in which the material is not entirely ready to use: its preparation is part of the experience.

That direct relationship with material matters to me. In a world where more and more things are immediate, automated and digital, working with the hands introduces another pace: touching, measuring, grinding, tracing, mixing, waiting, making mistakes and starting again.

That is why incense has a place in IKANE. Not because it is used to draw or paint, but because it can mark the transition into a period devoted to creating. Lighting it and letting its scent diffuse can create a clear break with the rest of the day and mark the beginning of that time.

Perhaps, for you too, creating begins before the first line: in the time you give yourself, the materials you prepare and the conditions you create around you.

If that way of creating speaks to you, you can explore the IKANE selection or go directly to incense.

Why only two countries for now?

European cross-border sales are subject to regulatory obligations that can differ from one country to another and are particularly burdensome for a very small independent shop.

IKANE is therefore opening deliveries gradually, starting with metropolitan France and the Netherlands.

Other European destinations may be added as these requirements become easier to manage. The list above will be updated accordingly.

Origin

Products are shipped from our partners’ logistics centres, mainly located in Asia, particularly in China.

Several products

When possible, several items are consolidated before shipping in order to favour a single parcel.

Packaging

Products currently retain the manufacturers’ packaging and may not yet systematically feature IKANE’s visual identity.

Delivery times

Delivery times are estimates and include consolidation, preparation and transport of the order.

Frequently Asked Questions

• Do you regularly add new references?

Yes, but gradually.
No "mass-produced" new features: we add what makes sense, at the pace of our trials and discoveries.

• Where do your products come from?

Our tools come from several regions of the world, mainly China, East Asia and Europe, depending on the associated expertise.
Some tools come from small manufacturers specializing in calligraphy or inks. Others come from reliable European suppliers.

Our criterion is not origin, but usage:
If a tool works well, reacts correctly, lasts over time and inspires creativity, we select it.

• What are the shipping times?

Delivery times vary depending on the item.
— on average 7 to 15 working days depending on the suppliers,
— some products may arrive more quickly,
— others require a little more time depending on their origin.
We always indicate the estimated delivery time before order confirmation.

• Can I return an item?

Yes. You have 14 days after receipt to request a return.
Items must be new, unused and in their original packaging.
For hygiene and quality reasons, inks, paints, liquids and consumables can only be returned if they have never been opened.
Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer, unless the error is ours.
