Art Secret 40RT Round Watercolour Brush (BRUSH ONLY)

The Art Secret 40RT brush is a fine-tipped round brush designed for watercolour, washes, water-based inks and highly diluted paints. Its classic shape allows for precise lines as well as gradients, flat washes, and blends with a single brush.

Its synthetic fibre tuft maintains a consistent point after each use and offers a good balance of flexibility, spring, and control. It holds enough water for comfortable blending, while maintaining good precision for details, outlines, and touch-ups.

Available from No. 1 to No. 24, the 40RT allows you to gradually build an assortment suitable for different painting formats, from travel sketchbooks to larger watercolour sheets. Each brush is sold individually so you can choose only the sizes useful for your work.

INFORMATION

The round shape combines a base wide enough to hold water and colour, then gradually tapers to a fine point. By varying the pressure applied to the paper, it is possible to go from a fine line to a wider line without changing brushes.

Small sizes are suitable for details, outlines, and small formats. Intermediate sizes are more versatile, while larger numbers are used for backgrounds, washes, and larger surfaces.

CHOOSING YOUR SIZE

• No. 1 to 4: fine details, small shapes, outlines, and touch-ups
• No. 6 to 10: common formats, illustrations, gradients, and controlled washes
• No. 12 to 16: flat washes, backgrounds, larger shapes, and wet work
• No. 18 to 24: large surfaces, extensive washes, and large format sheets

This distribution is indicative: the result also depends on the amount of water loaded into the brush, the pressure applied, and the paper format.

FEATURES

• Brand: Art Secret
• Series: 40RT
• Shape: round with fine point
• Fibres: synthetic
• Techniques: watercolour, washes, water-based ink, and diluted gouache

USE & CARE

Moisten the tuft before picking up colour, then lightly remove excess water on the edge of the container or on a cloth. Load the brush gradually to maintain control of the flow.

Use the tip for fine lines and details. By tilting the brush further or slightly increasing pressure, the wider part of the tuft can be used for flat washes, solid shapes, and gradients.

Rinse the brush in clear water immediately after use. To remove stubborn residue, use a mild soap then gently reshape the tip with your fingers.

Let the brush dry flat or with the tip pointing downwards. Avoid leaving it to soak vertically in water: the fibres can deform, and humidity can weaken the ferrule.

FOR WHOM

This brush is suitable for watercolour beginners as well as experienced artists who wish to precisely choose the sizes that complement their existing materials. It can be used for illustration, travel sketching, botanical studies, washes, details, and larger format compositions.

TO PAIR WITH

Pair this brush with Super Vision watercolour pigment in 15 ml tubes, the compartmented ceramic palette for preparing your mixes, and the 300 g/m² pocket watercolour sketchbook for working in the studio or on the go.

IKANE STUDIO TIP

Before choosing multiple sizes, start with a small brush for details, an intermediate size for most shapes, and a large number for washes. Three well-chosen sizes already cover a large part of your needs without unnecessarily multiplying tools.
