This set brings together four flat brushes in 20, 30, 40, and 50 mm for wetting paper, applying a wash, covering a background, or creating flat color areas in watercolor and diluted ink.
The width of the brush head allows for moving more water and color than a fine brush. The edge of the brush can also be used to draw a line, follow a border, or work in a narrower area.
The four widths allow you to adapt the brush to the format you are working on: small studies, sketchbooks, watercolor paper, or larger backgrounds.
INFORMATION
For a smooth wash, choose a width sufficient to cross the area with minimal touch-ups. The more you pass over an area that is beginning to dry, the higher the risk of streaks.
The brush can be used flat to cover a surface or turned slightly on its edge to reduce the width of the stroke.

USE & CARE
Dampen the bristles before loading with color. For a large wash, work in continuous strokes while maintaining a relatively constant amount of water in the brush.
Avoid pressing the bristles hard against the paper: the width of the brush head should do the work without excessive pressure.
After use, rinse with clear water, gently remove excess water, and reshape the head. Let dry flat or head-down, without leaving the brushes soaking in water.
PAIR WITH
For ink washes, use the artisanal vegetable fiber Xuan paper . The untreated, semi-treated, and treated versions allow you to compare different levels of absorption.

♥ IKANE STUDIO TIP
For a background, use the largest brush that fits comfortably within the area to be covered. The fewer times you need to go back over a part that is beginning to dry, the more even the wash will remain.
