This set brings together four fine-tipped brushes for calligraphy, ink drawing, outlining, and brush-based detailing.
Their narrow bristles limit the amount of hair in contact with the paper compared to a larger wash brush. This allows you to work on small characters, fine lines, and areas where stroke precision is more important than the amount of ink carried.
The four brushes feature mixed-hair bristles and handles with a gold finish. The set allows you to keep several brushes available during a single session, for example, to separate different ink densities or to avoid rinsing the same brush between two different mixtures.
INFORMATION
A fine tip allows you to focus contact on a small area. With light pressure, only the tip of the bristles touches the paper, producing a narrow line. By gradually increasing the pressure, more bristles spread onto the surface, widening the stroke.
These brushes are best suited for passages that require little ink capacity: small characters, outlines, veining, branches, connecting strokes, and details in ink painting. To cover a large surface or maintain a long wash without reloading, a larger brush remains more appropriate.
The behavior of the stroke also depends on the paper. On a highly absorbent surface, even a fine tip can produce a wider line through diffusion. On a more treated paper, the contour generally remains sharper and the width depends more on the gesture itself.

USE & CARE
Before first use, dampen the bristles completely in clear water and allow them to soften without forcing them. Gently reshape the tip with your fingers before loading the brush with ink.
For a fine line, load the bristles without saturating them and work with light pressure. If a drop forms at the tip before touching the paper, remove some ink: an excessive load immediately widens the start of the stroke.
To gradually widen the line, increase the pressure without laying the brush flat. Then release the pressure to allow the bristles to return to a point before the end of the gesture.
After use, rinse with clear water until the ink is gone, particularly near the base of the bristles. Reshape the tip and let the brush dry flat or suspended, without letting the bristles rest against a surface.
Do not leave the brushes soaking in water during the session. Prolonged immersion can deform the bristles and cause moisture to seep into the binding.
PAIR WITH
To alternate between fine details and broader strokes, complement the set with the traditional bamboo calligraphy brush . Its larger bristle head allows you to work with more ink and widen the stroke more significantly under pressure.
To prepare solid ink and vary its concentration, use the Mosong Sumi ink stick . Dense ink is suitable for bold black strokes; separate dilution allows you to keep a lighter gray for secondary details or more transparent passages.
To compare how the tips behave across various absorption levels, use the artisanal Xuan paper – unsized, semi-sized, or sized . The chosen sizing directly affects the ink diffusion speed and the sharpness of the contour.

Before starting a composition, draw three successive lines with each brush: one with very little pressure, one by spreading the bristles more, and one by gradually returning to the tip. Perform this test using the same ink on the same paper: you will immediately see which one maintains the finest line and which best handles variations in thickness.
