Sandalwood Travel Brush for Calligraphy and Wash Painting

This traditional brush features a wooden handle and a cap designed to protect its tip during transport. Its size makes it ideal for carrying in a pencil case for practicing calligraphy, wash painting, or ink painting outside the studio.

The tapered tip allows for varying line thickness depending on the angle of the handle and the pressure applied. It can be used to form characters, draw flexible lines, or apply broader strokes to paper.

The brush measures 20.5 cm and is available in two finishes: black sandalwood or red sandalwood. Each model is sold individually.

INFORMATION

This model adopts the shape of a traditional calligraphy brush while adding a protective cap. This limits contact between the tip and other tools when carried in a pencil case or pouch.

The loop at the end of the handle also allows the brush to be hung while drying or attached inside a suitable storage unit.

AVAILABLE COLORS

• Black sandalwood
• Red sandalwood

Both variants have the same shape, length, and use. Only the handle finish changes.

FEATURES

• Tip shape: tapered
• Handle material: sandalwood
• Length: 20.5 cm
• Uses: calligraphy, wash painting, and ink painting
• Quantity: 1 brush

USE & CARE

Before first use, fully moisten the tip with clear water to gradually release the hairs and restore their flexibility.

Load the brush by gently rolling the tip in ink or diluted color. Use its end for fine lines, then increase pressure to widen the stroke.

After use, rinse the tip with clear water until all color has disappeared. Gently reshape with your fingers, then hang the brush or let it dry flat.

Only replace the cap when the tip is completely dry. Storing it enclosed while still damp can retain moisture and deform the bristles.

FOR WHOM

This brush is suitable for those who practice calligraphy, wash painting, or ink painting and are looking for a protected tool that is easy to transport between the studio, a class, or an outdoor sketching session.

TO PAIR WITH

Use this brush with the media and tools presented in the guide Inksticks and Inkstones, Papers, Brushes, Pens, and Wash Painting . It can also be combined with Supervision watercolor pigments to work with highly diluted colors and variations in stroke.

IKANE WORKSHOP TIP

Before leaving, transport the brush clean and dry. Prepare a small amount of ink or color separately, then rinse the tip as soon as the session ends to prevent the material from drying between the bristles.
