Stainless steel clay finishing tool

This stainless steel tool is designed for cleaning up edges, refining contours, and removing excess material from clay or a piece currently being modeled.

Its thin, rigid metal tip allows you to work on a precise area without displacing the entire volume. It is particularly useful for burrs, seams, edges, and small irregularities.

It is best used when the clay begins to firm up: firm enough to hold its shape, but still moist enough to be corrected cleanly.

INFORMATION

Very soft clay may shift under the tool. Conversely, a surface that is already too dry requires more pressure and can flake or be marked unevenly.

Work with short, light strokes, checking the shape regularly rather than trying to achieve the finish in a single pass.

SPECIFICATIONS
  • Material: stainless steel
  • Compatibility: clay, pottery, and modeling materials
  • Uses: trimming, contours, edges, small touch-ups, and localized material removal
  • When to use: while the material is still moist or slightly firm
USE & CARE

To refine an edge or remove a burr, remove only a little material at a time. If the piece begins to deform, let it firm up further before continuing.

Clean the tool before the clay dries on the metal. Rinse if necessary and dry the steel thoroughly before storing.

PAIR WITH

To have a variety of profiles for carving, smoothing, incising, and refining your piece, pair it with the set of 9 modeling tools .

♥ IKANE WORKSHOP TIP

If the tool pushes the clay instead of producing a clean, small shaving, the clay is likely still too moist. Wait for it to firm up slightly before continuing the finishing process.
