Curved trimming tool for clay – wooden handle
This curved tool allows you to progressively remove material, refine a shape, and rework the surfaces of a clay piece. Its curved blade follows the contours and facilitates working with curves, hollows, and areas difficult to reach with a straight tool.
It can be used for trimming, sculpting, modeling, and finishing. On slightly firmed clay, it helps to clean a base, reshape a foot, correct thickness, or define certain details without removing too much material in a single pass.
Its wide wooden handle offers a stable grip and allows for more controlled guidance of the blade. Compact and lightweight, the tool is 11 cm long and easily finds its place among modeling and finishing instruments.
INFORMATION
The curved blade removes material in fine shavings and allows you to work along the lines of a volume. It is suitable for rework after modeling or throwing, when the piece is firm enough to retain its shape.
The tool can be used to thin a wall, clear a foot, clean a base, rework a hollow, or correct an irregularity before the piece is completely dry.
FEATURES
• Materials: metal blade and wooden handle
• Blade shape: curved
• Total length: 11 cm
• Maximum handle diameter: 3.2 cm
• Functions: scraping, hollowing, refining, and reshaping
USE & CARE
Preferably use the tool on leather-hard clay: the piece must be firm enough not to deform, while remaining soft enough to allow material removal.
Hold the handle firmly, tilt the blade slightly against the surface, then work with short, progressive strokes. Avoid applying excessive pressure to prevent tearing the clay or carving too deeply.
After use, remove clay residue before it dries. Clean the blade with a slightly damp cloth, dry it carefully, and avoid immersing the handle to preserve the wood.
WHO IS IT FOR
This tool is suitable for ceramists, potters, and sculptors who want to remove material precisely, rework a shape after throwing, or work on curves and hollows in a modeled piece.
TO PAIR WITH
Pair this tool with the set of 8 clay trimming tools for varied rework profiles, the set of 9 modeling tools to build and refine volumes, as well as the ceramic measuring caliper to control diameters and proportions.

IKANE WORKSHOP TIP
Start by removing very thin layers of material, then regularly observe the piece from several angles. This progression prevents digging too deeply and helps maintain the overall balance of the volume.
