White charcoal pencils – set of 3

This set of three white pencils allows you to add highlights and areas of light to drawings made with charcoal, carbon, graphite, or other dry techniques.

The matte lead stands out particularly well on gray, brown, black, or tinted papers. It helps refine reflections, reinforce volume, or bring light back to an area you have already worked on.

The white is built up gradually through pressure and layering: a light touch remains subtle, while several passes increase its intensity.

INFORMATION

Contrast is more visible on a tinted background than on white paper. The grain of the paper also influences the application: a textured surface allows more material to settle in the grooves.

On a charcoal or carbon drawing, apply highlights after the main dark areas. Blending the white heavily over an already black area can mix the materials and dull the brightness.

USE & CARE

Start with light pressure and then layer the strokes if you wish to increase the intensity of the white. Reserve the strongest marks for the truly luminous areas.

To maintain a sharp point of light, apply the white after your main blending rather than working back into it with the blacks.

Sharpen the pencil according to the desired line and protect the leads from impact to prevent internal breakage.

♥ IKANE STUDIO TIP

On tinted paper, first build three values — shadow, mid-tone, and light — then reserve the most intense white for just a few points. The volume will be more legible than if all light areas are treated with the same pressure.
