Zisha Purple Clay Tea Bowl – covered bowl for Gong Fu Cha

This covered Zisha purple clay tea bowl is designed for preparing loose-leaf tea, especially in practices inspired by Gong Fu Cha.

Dense, mineral, and slightly porous, Zisha clay retains heat well and is perfect for short infusions. The lid allows for control of the opening, steam, and pouring.

Its compact size is suitable for slow preparations, small tastings, and minimalist tea spaces. Each piece may show slight variations in hue, texture, and proportions.

INFORMATION

This covered bowl, similar to a gaiwan in use, allows for steeping leaves directly in the vessel and then pouring by slightly tilting the lid.

Zisha purple clay is valued for its thermal retention and its more mineral presence compared to classic glazed ceramic. It is particularly suitable for loose-leaf teas prepared by successive infusions.

As each piece is handcrafted, variations in color, surface, and dimensions are part of the item.

CHARACTERISTICS

Type: Sancai / covered bowl for Gong Fu Cha
Material: Zisha purple clay
Firing: high temperature
Dimensions: approximately 8.5 × 8 cm
Manufacturing: handcrafted piece, possible variations in hue and texture

USE & CARE

Rinse the bowl with hot water before the first infusion to warm the clay. Place the leaves, pour hot water, then cover during infusion.

To serve, slightly tilt the lid to retain the leaves while allowing the liquor to flow. Pour slowly, without forcing the movement, to maintain control of the flow.

Clean with clear water after use, without scented or abrasive products. Allow to dry completely before storage. Do not heat directly over a flame, hob, or heat source.

CREATE YOUR TEA SPACE

To measure the leaves and neatly slide them into the bowl, you can pair it with the bamboo duo with tea scoop and adjusting rod.

To handle cups, lids, and hot objects during preparation, it can be complemented by the bamboo tea tongs.

To organize the table and collect rinsing water, you can use it with the compact bamboo tea tray.

For a more minimalist setup, without a reservoir, it can also accompany the solid wood rectangular tea tray or the Prepare selection.

🤍 Ikane Workshop Advice
Let the steam bring calm before pouring. With a covered bowl, the gesture lies in the tilt of the lid, the steadiness of the hand, and the time given to the leaves.
