Xuan Paper Roll – Calligraphy, Ink Writing, and Long Compositions
This Xuan paper roll is ideal for practicing calligraphy, traditional writing, and ink painting on a continuous format of 240 × 2000 mm.
The roll format supports long compositions, character series, repeated exercises, and strokes that require more space than a pre-cut sheet.
Depending on the chosen finish, the fibers react differently to water and ink: more moderate absorption to maintain control of the stroke, or a smoother surface for a sharper rendering.
INFORMATION
The roll of Xuan paper allows for uninterrupted work: unroll the necessary length, prepare the composition, repeat a character, or create a longer line of writing.
It is suitable for ink practices: calligraphy, brush writing, Chinese painting, washes, dilution tests, and vertical or horizontal compositions.
The rendering depends on the finish, the amount of water, the brush load, the speed of the stroke, and the density of the prepared ink.

CHOOSING THE FINISH
The semi-processed finish offers moderate absorption. It allows for better control of the stroke while still allowing the ink to penetrate the fibers.
It is suitable for regular exercises, first attempts on a roll, repeated characters, and strokes that require a balance between diffusion and legibility.
The mica-treated finish offers a smoother surface, with a sharper and slightly luminous rendering. It further limits diffusion and is better suited for structured lines.
For a very free and diffuse stroke, choose a more absorbent paper. For more stable writing, the treated finish will be easier to control.
USE & STORAGE
Unroll only the necessary length, then stabilize the ends with a light weight or a soft clip to prevent the paper from re-rolling during work.
Test absorption on a scrap piece before starting a long composition. Adjust the ink dilution according to the chosen finish and the desired level of diffusion.
Allow to dry completely before rolling, cutting, or moving the paper. Wet ink can transfer, mark, or stick to adjacent areas.
Store the roll in a dry place, away from humidity, dust, and direct light. Handle with clean hands to avoid marks on the surface.
