This set includes various brush shapes to alternate between flat washes, outlines, details, and small areas when painting with acrylics or oils.
Flat brushes are used to lay down a band of color, cover a surface, or build a sharper edge. Round shapes allow you to follow a curve, trace a line, or work in a narrower area. Fine points are used when precision becomes more important than the amount of paint carried.
The bristles are made of synthetic nylon, the handles of wood, and the ferrules are metal with a copper finish. Everything is stored in a metal box, which keeps the brushes together between sessions and allows you to transport them without leaving them loose in a pouch.
INFORMATION
The shape of the brush primarily determines how the paint is applied. A flat brush puts several fibers in contact with the surface across the same width and more easily produces a regular band or a straight edge. A round brush concentrates the bristles more toward the tip and is better suited for lines, curves, and small shapes.
With acrylics, the paint dries quickly and can harden inside the tuft, especially near the ferrule. Cleaning must therefore start before the residue dries completely.
With oil paint, the material remains workable longer and the brushes can hold more paint between the fibers. It is useful to regularly wipe off excess paint during the session to limit unintentional mixing and to facilitate final cleaning.

USE & CARE
For a wash or background, load a flat brush and work with the width of the bristles rather than the tip. For a border or a smaller area, turn the brush slightly to reduce the surface area in contact with the canvas.
For a line or a detail, use a round or pointed shape and reduce the amount of loaded paint. An overloaded brush will quickly widen the line and can deposit a bead of material at the beginning or end of the stroke.
With acrylics, rinse the brushes with water before the paint dries in the fibers. Work the bristles between your fingers under water or with a mild soap to remove paint near the ferrule, then rinse until the water runs clear.
With oil, first remove as much paint as possible with a cloth or paper towel, then clean with a product suitable for brushes used for oil painting. Finish with a gentle wash if necessary, then reshape the bristles.
Let the brushes dry flat. Do not let them sit for a long time on their tips in water or cleaner: the fibers can bend, and liquid can seep up toward the ferrule and handle.
PAIR WITH
To prepare several colors or mixes before applying them to the surface, use the compartmentalized ceramic palette . The compartments allow you to keep a main color, a modified shade, or a small amount of medium separate.
To work with thick acrylic or oil paint, remove areas of material, or create reliefs that cannot be achieved with brush bristles, supplement the set with the set of 5 painting spatulas .

♥ IKANE STUDIO TIP
To prevent all colors from eventually becoming contaminated, assign a few brushes to light values and others to very dark or heavily pigmented colors. During the session, also wipe the bristles before dipping them into another color: rinsing alone does not always remove all the paint trapped near the ferrule.
